The Other 9990

An ongoing documentation of empty football goals. The title refers to the time in minutes where the goals remain empty and pitches devoid of activity during an average week, the other 90 minutes being used for a football match.

Photographed central to the camera frame, isolated and dislocated from the pitch, yet framing the landscape behind, placing focus on the biophilic connection. Some have nets intact, others are rudimentary, a simple crossbar  and two posts seemingly cobbled together. Situated on patches of land or village grounds, often in remote rural locations, these goals serve local communities. Monumental in their silence,  they are totemic placeholders for a ritualistic coming together.
