The Other 9990
An ongoing documentation of empty football goals. The title refers to the time in minutes where the goals remain empty and pitches devoid of activity during an average week, the other 90 minutes being used for a football match.
Often photographed central to the camera frame, isolated and dislocated from the whole pitch, perhaps the line of sight of the set-piece taker. The surrounding landscape framed by both camera and goal, a biophilic distraction for either shot. Some goals have nets intact, others have bare posts or more rudimentary, simple sticks cobbled together. Situated on strips of land, playgrounds and village pitches often in remote rural locations where they serve local communities. Monumental in their silence, they are totemic placeholders for a ritualistic coming together.
